So why Brass Chuckles Comedy?

Brass Chuckles Comedy is the brainchild lovingly grown and maintained by nationally-touring comedian Tamale Sepp. BCC aims to offer comedy to students who are enthusiastic and eager to explore the structure and mechanics of comedy, to discover and nurture their own comedic timing and humor, and strengthen their writing in order to  become a skilled comedian.

Standard structured classes last 7 weeks for an average of 3 hours each class, giving students the chance to explore the mechanics and basics of standup comedy and on-stage comedy, view and analyze known comedians and comedy specials, and to workshop new material and polish a finished set that could be used for future success in comedy.

So why take classes with BCC instead of *insert any other, also amazing comedy school*?

BCC knows that many options are available for those that want to explore and learn comedy. The beauty of BCC comedy classes is that they are well-researched and developed, offered remotely, and intentionally kept intimate for student productivity and growth. BCC is the option for students who need freedom to fit these classes into their existing lives, but are also ready for the work and tools that will develop their craft.

BCC classes are all developed and instructed by Tamale Sepp, a seasoned and experienced comedian and comedy instructor. Tamale has toured for comedy in both the US and Europe, and is currently in the middle of a full-time, nation-wide tour in the US as she develops her Life Behind Bars album. She’s done comedy in the Mecca of comedy, Chicago, Il, producing and performing comedy nightly since *cough cough* early 2000's *cough cough*. As a performer she brings the personal, lived experience of performing on a variety of stages and venues- experience that can help guide and prepare students looking to grow as performers in a variety of small and big venues.

Tamale has also served in a multitude of positions as a faculty member, performer, instructor, virtual stage manager, and night manager for the Second City Training Center since 2004, during which she has helped a variety of students in varied skills and and levels develop their abilities and hone their craft. As an instructor for multiple levels and disciplines of comedy for Second City, Tamale has discovered where comedic curriculum could and should be created and nurtured, and the best instructional models to help students. Her background is in education, and she combines that with her comedic experience to help students in achieving success toward their comedic goals through BCC.

Why remote classes?

All of the current BCC course offerings are done remotely, with class and workshops occurring via Zoom. Remote offerings offer our students the ability to connect with the instructor and classmates from any location with internet, allowing for these classes to fold into any busy life in any location a student may be. Tamale has had students from all over the globe, including Japan, Australia, Toronto, South America, Italy, and Des Moines.  Comedy doesn’t have to be a pause or a struggle with every-day-life, but can be a component that can fit. Zoom classes allow students to connect from a variety of locations and offer regional and personal insight in a safe and still connected way that doesn’t impede every day life.

The cap of BCC classes allow us to keep classes intimate for student growth; the smaller class size allows for students to be able to be seen and heard in class as a comic and not a number, their comedic growth can be nurtured and guided as needed, while still in a classroom settings where important community/classmate feedback can be utilized.
